Education Areas

Objective

The aim of the Institute is to provide advanced education and research opportunities necessary to train successful scientists and academicians in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry. In basic sciences, one can become an academician by completing a doctorate after graduating from medical school. In clinical branches, specialisation is accepted as equivalent to a doctorate, and after becoming a specialist, one can apply for associate professorship without undergoing doctoral education. Institute of Neurological Sciences and Psychiatry; Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Paediatric Neurology specialists and those with expertise in other related medical disciplines have the opportunity to do a doctorate in neurological sciences. In addition; cerebrovascular diseases, behavioural neurology, epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, electromyography, clinical electroencephalography, neuroimmunology, neuro-ophthalmology, paediatric neurosurgery, spinal surgery, movement disorders, the use of rapidly developing new tests in diagnosis and treatment and interdisciplinary approach in the branches that require master's degree education without thesis. These programmes, which are carried out under the name of ‘fellowship’ abroad, are given on top of clinical specialty education in our Institute and aim to develop knowledge and skills in the fields mentioned above.

On the other hand, within the framework of the integrated medicine-doctor of science programme, our Institute provides doctoral education in Neuroscience to medical faculty students.

POSTGRADUATE COURSES:
More than 2000 hours of postgraduate courses are offered in an academic year, and these courses are taken by doctoral and master's degree students with/without thesis, as well as speciality students.

JOINT MEETINGS
‘Neurooncology, Neuropathology and Wednesday Meetings’ are held regularly during the academic year with the participation of the Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Oncology, Radiology and Pathology and the Paediatric Neurology Unit.

INSTITUTE DAYS:
At the end of the academic year, annual meetings are organised under the name of ‘Institute Days’ with the participation of foreign scientists as speakers.

NEUROSCIENCE SEMINARS:
Seminars are organised every fifteen days in each academic term, with the participation of experts in their fields as speakers.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:
Research activities within our Institute are carried out in Brain Research, Microsurgery, EMG, EEG and EEG Monitoring Laboratories. The coordination of these laboratories is carried out within the Neurology and Psychiatry Application and Research Centre established with the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 19 January 1983 and numbered 83/6-57.
