The cerebrovascular diseases work group carries out multidisciplinary research and clinical activities involving ischemic and hemorrhagic cerebrovascular diseases, with the active participation of the Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology departments. This group administers the latest medical, surgical and interventional treatments to stroke patients in our hospital, where the highest standard neuroradiologic and ultrasonographic diagnostic methods are available, as well as up to date intensive care units. This group aims to make scientific contributions to the development of these diagnostic and treatment methods and to pioneer the use of these methods in our country. The accessibility of techniques such as perfusion CT, permeability CT, CT angiography, MR angiography, MR diffusion-perfusion and gradient echo sequencing, combined with an on-call stroke team, makes it possible to use intra-arterial medical or mechanical thrombolysis as well as intravenous thrombolytic treatments 24 hours a day. The availability of endovascular stenting, endovascular and surgical treatments for aneurysms and AVMs; decompression and extra-intracranial bypass surgery; and carotid endarterectomy increases the success rate in the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. Furthermore, in order to train neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists specializing in cerebrovascular diseases, a fellowship program - the lack of which is currently felt in our country - has been established by the work group.
